Chaverim is the Youth Department for all Jewish youth and teens from 3rd-12th grade in the West San Fernando Conjeo Valleys. While we are connected to Shomrei Torah and Temple Aliyah, you do not need to be affiliated with either synagogue to be part of Chaverim.
Chaverim includes Kadima, our programming for 3rd-6th graders and our Teen program for 6th-12th graders. Kadima meets once or twice a month for Lounge Night and the Teen program meets every Wednesday night for their Lounge Night.
In our affiliation with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ), we are part of their Far West region. We see the extended region at regional events throughout the year and mainly interact with our local chapters.
While Chaverim does participate in USY events, it is also meant to encompass events beyond the USY realm that will be happening in our synagogues and beyond.
Our goal as a Youth Department is to have ongoing community service and social action events, youth-oriented Shabbat and Jewish Holiday celebrations, off-campus outings, and an array of leadership opportunities. Our youth and teens will develop skills to grow as Jewish leaders through planning and participating in programming in a Jewish social setting while making lifelong Jewish friends and cultivating a strong Jewish identity.

Michelle recently graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Since 2016, Michelle has spent her summers at Camp Ramah as a counselor, educator, and division head. She received a full-tuition scholarship to spend a semester at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a Fellow of the Nachshon Project.
